52 Days

On Sunday we kicked off our 52 Day Campaign believing that we serve the same God that empowered Nehemiah and his workers to completely rebuild the wall around Jericho in 52 days. As a community of faith, we are learning that Jesus has called us out to be on mission to change the world. I believe if we are going to move with God, we must be willing to take Risks, Sacrifice personally, and Mobilize people to take this journey with us.

Our goal is to see a 52% increase in our overall attendance at church by Easter Sunday. You may ask, “Why are you worried about increasing attendance?” Well, I am happy to answer. By increasing our attendance by 52% that gives us concrete evidence that we are fulfilling one of our goals as a church, to reach people. That’s 52% more people that we have the opportunity of leading to a passionate relationship with Jesus, its 52% more people to partner with us in this movement of God to see the hungry fed, the needy clothed, and the brokenhearted loved. It’s 52% more people who can discover the passions God has placed in their heart in order to serve mankind, locally and globally. 52% may very well be a challenge to us, but it is mere simplicity to God. In New Passion’s first 5 months we’ve seen God grow our community by 100% – I’m trusting Him for an additional 52% by Easter.

Hey New Passion! Are you with me? In the next 52 days, let’s find ways that we can Risk, Sacrifice, and Mobilize in order to fulfill the mission Christ has called us on. Join the Social Media revolution! Grab the main picture (right click & “save picture as”) and place it on your blog or facebook photo albums, or grab the photo below (right click & “save picture as”) and replace your Twitter, Facebook, or Myspace avatar with it. If you are on Twitter, tweet how God is using you to Risk, Sacrifice, and Mobilize and tag it with #52Days, so we can all check out what God is doing in your life!  What can you do to live out Jesus’ mission this week?

Stronger: A Weekend for Men

stronger

In just a few of hours, 14 men will be piling into cars and driving about three hours up the road for “Stronger: A Weekend for Men.” We are going to a conference that solely focuses on men. I have no idea what to expect from this conference, I’ve never been, in fact to be honest, from the outside, its probably a conference I would typically avoid, but I am trusting the advice and the urging of one of my team members. I hope it’s as good as its been built up to be.

The conference is not called Stronger, but we are calling our weekend Stronger, because that is our goal from this trip. My desire is to see the men of New Passion become Stronger in every area of their lives. The fact is, I am younger than most of the men at our church, therefore instead of speaking into their lives on areas where they probably have had more experience, I feel it is healthy to allow other, older and wiser people do the talking for me. My biggest desire beyond men growing stronger in their personal lives and in their relationships at home and at work, is to see relationships develop with each other here at New Passion.

New Series: REFUEL

We are kicking off our new series “REFUEL” this Sunday- The series really began last week as we canceled service for “REFUEL Weekend” and asked everyone to take time with their family and with God to prepare for the new year. I am excited about 2010 for New Passion! We are hitting the ground running as we kickoff our 3rd children’s environement, a new group for two year olds in The Grove. We are also kicking off Community Groups for the first time as a church. We’ve had a HUGE response from people interested in sharing life with one another in community! So far we have right at 50% of our weekend attendance signed up for a group. I’m totally blown away by the response. Our groups will correspond with the message series, and each group will be traveling together through the Refuel book by Doug Fields.

I hope to see you this Sunday as we discover how to have uncomplicated connections with God. [Directions]

A Stepping Stone

stonestairs
Friday night, we had our first annual adult Christmas party for New Passion Church. I believe it was a major stepping stone for our church and that this one little party could serve as a huge turning point for us.

I believe relationships are the key to success in any church and in any ministry. I remember starting small groups in our student ministry at a former church. I believed in creating smaller environments where our growing group of students could be known and cared for. It worked. I remember our high school group starting in Billy’s 3 bedroom apartment. We had 4 and 5 groups meeting in that one apartment. We utilized bedrooms, the living room, the kitchen…anywhere we could fit kids, we did it.

They were successful. I believe for several reasons. Students felt like they were involved, they found out that there were caring adults who were genuinely concerned for them, and they grew spiritually. I think this environment made it comfortable for students to invite their friends, therefore we grew even more.

I saw some great chemistry on Friday night. Wives who literally just met were standing around talking as if they were friends for 18 years. People who literally come through the doors of the school where we meet, drop their kid off, attend service, pick their kid up, and leave for home (in that specific order) were able to stop for a little while and interact with our team and with other people from the church. There was a lot of smiles and a lot of laughter. It was a great night. Sunday rolled around and some of those same people who are in and out of the church in a flash, slowed down just a little bit and enjoyed conversation with some of their new friends from the church. There was a buzz surrounding our Community Groups which will be kicking off on January 10, 2010.

I believe healthy relationships are a key ingredient to a healthy church, and I believe Friday night’s party helped add that ingredient to New Passion Church…I can’t wait to see what happens once our groups get off the ground. New Passion will be an unstoppable force! I guarantee it 🙂

Drink Coffee. Do Good

Every two months, we at New Passion Church focus on a new missions organization that we can promote to our people so they know the opportunities that exist outside of the walls of the church where they can help create revolutionary change, either through their local influence or their global influence. In December & January, we’ve decided to focus on “Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee.

A lot of people drink coffee…minus me. So, we figured this is not only a practical way for people to do good by doing something they already do. It is also an opportunity to include others in their efforts with the Christmas and Winter season upon us. When people drink coffee from “Land of a Thousand Hills” they help genocide survivors from Rwanda and their families earn a fair wage for their labor in the coffee fields, they provide ministry opportunities for the villages, and they get a fresh, premium cup of coffee.

We’ve got several neat things in store for our missions focus with “Land of a Thousand Hills,” so if you are in or around Grovetown in December and January….find your way to New Passion and join us!

Here’s one more video, it talks about the people of Rwanda working side by side now thanks to the coffee cooperatives. Check it out!
