Orange Day 2:

It is late, and I don’t have all of my notes in front of me, but today at the conference I saw and heard a trend that I have seen on the rise lately. The student leaders that I was with today heard from Francis Chan, Sue Miller, Reggie Joiner God has been dealing with me on a lot of these issues for over a year and through efforts like UNLEASH (website seriously out of date) and so it has served as some strong confirmation that I personally am moving in the right direction in my ministry approach…my goal is to get others to follow!!!
Francis Chan spoke in session 2 today. As usual he was awesome, and very challenging.
Today, the most important point that I will share is this…More important than any church strategy, model, or conference; How much do you love Jesus? Are you in love with Jesus? Kind of puts it all into perspective!!!
That’s all for right now, more to be posted soon!

Orange

Orange Conferene 2007
Atlanta, GA

The first session of the Orange conference was tonight. Lanny was his usual nutty self, Steve Fee rocked the house, and Reggie Joiner kicked off the first session with a great talk. Here are some of the points he made:

1. A lot of people think what they are doing is right and effective, in fact…
2. Many people have convinced themselves that they are doing the right thing(s), even though it is the same thing that has been done over and over again.

3. When speakers/leaders see that people are disconnecting from the message, we are trained to simply turn up the volume…we don’t change what we are saying, we keep saying the same thing over and over, we just get louder…
(Reggie used a great illustration, where he played white noise and increased it over and over again, until all you could hear was the noise)
4. Noise…its what we give our audience many times!!!

5. The rest of the conference will focus on 5 areas: (Could be the purposes, but its not…Ha!)

  • Stucture (Our plans should have the end “goal” in sight)
  • Message (Our messages should be prepared with the end “goal” in mind)
  • Community (Everything in our ministries should lead to providing community.)
  • Family
  • Inflence (Move from “Going and Doing…to ‘Being'”

It should be great…

Jack Carnes (My Grandpa)

This man rocks!!! This is my Grandpa, Jack Carnes, if his parents only knew how cool his name would be today in 2007. (Jack Bauer!!!)
My Grandpa, at the age of 12, had 3 fingers blown off by a dynamite cap…(the hand in the pocket)…he has done so many great things within his lifetime, and he has been a great Christian example to his children and grandchildren. He can do more with 2 fingers and 3 nubs than many people can do with all 5 fingers on one hand.
One of his greatest feats was to build a beautiful home all by himself while in his 70’s (He is in his 80’s now) The only help he had was with the roof…and the painting (I helped paint to pay for my first car!!!) Anyway…I just thought I would brag on him and to introduce him to you all, because he is such a great man.

Congratulations Ben!!!

Congratulations Ben on graduating from College!!! If you notice in the picture, Ben, graduated with some honors in English and some other subjects, which is very good! Ben has always excelled in school and he did very well in College…

Ben is currently working for Sam Brownback’s Presidential Campaign, he got into politics while at college, he hosted his own Christian/Politics talk show, he wrote a mock bill to end abortion that passed 100% at the State House in Columbia SC, and now he has an interview with the White House on Tuesday.

Ben has a passion to end abortion…and that is awesome. If only everyone else would be as passionate about God and Life!!! Congratulations Ben, I look forward to seeing how God uses your life for His Mission!!!
