That’s how many pounds I have lost since my surgery on Thanksgiving. I lost 4 pounds since last Thursday, which was 4 days ago (1 pound per day!!!)

Here’s how I’ve done it:

  • I got a 6 pound head start from my Appendectomy – I could not eat for about 3 days.
  • When I could eat again I could really only eat a small portion of soft foods (soup, apple sauce, shepherds pie, etc.)
  • Since then, I eat about 3 tablespoons of applesauce for breakfast, about 8 to 10 ounces of soup for lunch, and a semi-large dinner (usually consisting of high protein). On 2 of the 4 days I ate 2 egg whites, 1 large blueberry pancake and 2 sausage links, however my food intake for the rest of the day was very little, on one of the days I ate no lunch, and on the other I ate a small portion of soup, but a very small dinner. The cool thing is, before my surgery I would be starving if that is all I had for breakfast and lunch, but so far I have had no problems.
  • Yesterday and today my calorie intake has been between 800 & 900 total calories for the entire day. (Here’s an example of my meals yesterday: 3 tablespoons of Breakfast: Applesauce, 50 cal; Lunch: 10 oz. bowl of low fat Chicken & Noodle Soup w/sourdough bread slice, 280 cal (140 each); Dinner: Weight Watchers steak and Portobello Mushroom meal w/steamed seasonal vegetables and a small portion of garlic red potatoes from Applebees (not worth the $10), 330 cal. Total 660, plus at our community group I snacked on a couple of sausage balls and two small slices of a tortilla thingy, so I will say 200 cal. on that for a grand total of 860 for the entire day!
  • Thursday, Saturday, and Today (Monday) I walked…I cannot run or do any weight lifting. Thursday I walked a mile and a half, Saturday I walked approximately 2 miles, and today I walked 2 miles, but today had no effect on my 10 pound weight loss!

That’s how many pounds I lost from my surgery…expensive way to lose weight,
but I’m not complaining!

The Truth about my Appendectomy

Ok, I know I said my “Appendix” had to be removed!!! The truth is…I got stabbed 3 times by Kryptonite. Gavin was the first one to catch on to “daddy’s” lie, and could not grasp how Superman could end up in the hospital, so I had to come clean and tell him that Superman was stabbed by kryptonite. He wanted to know why I didn’t fly away from the bad guy who had the kryptonite and I had to explain that if I did not stop the bad guy then he could have come after him with the kryptonite and since he does not have all of his powers yet, that would not be a good thing, so I stood up to the bad guy and won, but had to have surgery to remove the kryptonite. There’s the truth…I hope you are all happy now, I feel like a new man getting the truth out there.

Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis

I have been reading Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis while recovering from surgery.
It is a real easy read, I should have finished it by now, but I am guilty of being a bigger TV watcher than reader. Wow! What an awesome book…it really makes me feel so small and dumb when it comes to the Bible…this is a great book about repainting the Christian Faith. Rob shares some interesting points, which interestingly enough I agree with, yet I know they are controversial, but then again that’s kind of always been me.
Rob Bell really gives you the confidence to ask questions in this book…and taking that freedom, I ask the same question I have asked for a long time, Why did God allow me to grow up under the pastors and teachers that I did, who’s interpretation of the Bible was typically agenda driven? I see a lot of my dad’s style of leadership and teaching in this book, I’m not sure if he would agree with Rob Bell 100% from this book, I am sure I will not either, but he always taught me to question what I was being taught from one man’s interpretation compared to what the Bible says about it, or as Rob Bell calls it, the teaching of another Rabbi’s yoke. Definitely check this book out for yourself, I cannot wait to finish it.
