Random Bible Thoughts

My Community Group started doing the NOOMA video series with Rob Bell a few weeks ago. We are on the 4th video, called “Sunday.” This is the first video I ever saw of his when they first came out, and it is one of my favorites. In the video Rob talks about Jesus when he dealt with the Pharisees from Matthew 23. I’ve been thinking a lot about that since Sunday. Have you ever noticed how impatient Jesus seems when it came to dealing with the religious leaders of his time, yet he was extremely patient with those who were unbelievers. Check out these verses from Matthew 23 to see for yourself (13, 15, 16, 23, 33 All in one link). He called them hypocrites, Sons of Hell, Sons of Vipers, Snakes, Blind guides…just to name a few.

Now compare that to Jesus’ patience when he was being crucified on the cross, by the non-believers, his famous words were, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34) That is one of many examples that I could use, others being the woman at the well, Nicodemus, and others. I don’t know what made me even make that comparison, however it is clear to see that there is a huge difference in his attitude towards the “religious leaders,” who knew better, and the non-believers, who were acting in ignorance, as Paul said he did when persecuting the church (1 Timothy 1:13). I wonder how angry Christ must get at some pastors, churches, church leaders, and Christians with the way they act, the way they treat their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and most of all those who do not yet believe in Christ? Random Thoughts

  • Is your reputation worth $49 million dollars? Apparently it is for Heather Mills
  • I don’t want to fall in God’s “detest” category Proverbs 15:8-9
  • Steven Furtick is rocking it for God,
and the team he brought to Unleash is crazy!
P.S. Have I mentioned that Steven is a huge inspiration to me, he is! I wanted to meet him at the conference, but never got around to it.
  • I have a new Joke, it is horrible just like the last one:“Old musicians never die, they are just disconcerted.”
  • A couple of more Unleash thoughts: #1 One of Perry Noble’s points in session 2 was to remember where God called us, I’ve been thinking about that a lot since Thursday…I remember God called me to preach when I was 12 I was serving with a Migrant Missions Ministry with our local church. – I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of years, I’ve definately messed up, but I know that I have always followed Christ the best I could over the years. #2 Perry shared that he thought Jesus could care less about who our next President is, His main concern is to see the lost saved, he mentioned that God fulfilled his will even with Pharaoh and other wicked leaders in power. I agree, I was reading in Jeremiah the other day and God told Jeremiah that his people would be spared if they obediently subjected themselves to King Nebuchadnezzar (Jeremiah 27:6-8, 17) We may be political people, but Jesus is not, and he can accomplish his Will whether we have a Republican, an Independent, or a Democrat in office. God wants us to share His Good News not divide ourselves over politics and to prostitute our churches for a political association.
  • I thought about this the other day…I’ll post more about it later, but…

Do Not Waste Christmas

Perry Noble has a very sobering post on his blog, here is an excerpt:

I had no idea that night when I went to bed that my mother had just spent her last Christmas with me. I imagined there would be more, lots more—with food and gifts and her laughter. But in July of that next year she was diagnosed with cancer…and she went on to be with Jesus in November at the age of 49.

The next Christmas was silent for me—I did receive gifts and we had a tree…but the joy was gone. I distinctly remember thinking, “If I had only known last Christmas was going to be her last I would have spent WAY more time with her.” I had made the mistake of thinking, “Everyone will be here next year.” But they weren’t…which leads me to…

The Chuck Gordon Christmas Ornament

I won the Chuck Gordon (Pastor at the church @ Greenbrier) Christmas Ornament last night at our Community Group Party. After Christmas this will become my work out buddy. Chuck claims this picture was after 1 day at the gym…I am going to the gym to see if that is true! However, doesn’t it look great on my tree?
