Ten Turkey Thursday

Update: We raised all of the money to feed 30 families this Thanksgiving! Thank you all for your support and compassion for the people of Grovetown!

If you can read this, you can help! New Passion is working with United We Care for our annual ONE:27 Turkey Project to provide 30 complete Thanksgiving meals for families who are in desperate financial need in the city of Grovetown. The bottom line is this, without our help, these families will not enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this year. For $20, you provide an entire family a whole turkey and all of the fixin’s. So far, New Passion has raised enough support for 20 25 of the 30 meals, and we are only providing a portion of the need. So far United We Care has approved 44 families for assistance. Can we just knock this out today?!

Ten Turkey Thursday. Will you donate a tax-deductible $20 to provide a meal for a family in need? (If you can’t give $20, give what you can, it will all go towards the meals) Will you also help spread the word through your family and friends and through your social media networks? Please don’t just post the link…ask your friends to get involved and give!

Can we wrap up these final 10 5 meals? I don’t know, you tell me by giving below…. ๐Ÿ™‚

Turkey Tuesday

one27-turkey-project

I love Thanksgiving! Okay, except for the one two years ago when I had appendicitis and had to have emergency surgery, but the rest of my Thanksgiving memories have been awesome and full of great food and laughs with my family. It wasn’t necessarily the appendicitis that ruined my Thanksgiving two (almost three) years ago, it was the fact that I didn’t get to eat my traditional Thanksgiving lunch/dinner. I was really questioning God’s love that day ๐Ÿ™‚

I love Turkey and Dressing and the rest of the fixin’s, but it was miserable knowing and seeing everyone else getting to enjoy it while I got left out. That’s why I’m passionate about the ONE:27 Turkey Project that New Passion is hosting. We’ve set a goal to provide 30 complete Thanksgiving meals through United We Care for families in Grovetown, GA who are in financial need. We’ve supported 10 families already, so on this Turkey Tuesday, will you help us support the final 20 families? You can sponsor an entire family with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for only $20 (for multiple families multiply $20 by the number of families you want to help). Thank you for your participation and for making someone’s Thanksgiving one to remember!

The Attitude of Gratitude

We are in-between sermon series at New Passion, so yesterday I did a solo message on the Attitude of Gratitude. Generic, I know.

However, the title is all telling. I believe when we are grateful, it changes our attitude towards God and towards other people. I shared at the end of the message a list of people I am grateful for at New Passion, I also shared a video that convicted me in areas I had been ungrateful (It’s definitely a must see video by Pete Wilson: Watchย  HERE*Correction from the message: It was not India, it was a house in the Dominican Republic).

Think about it:

  • How would our attitude about the job we hate change if you realized there are millions of people without a job and became grateful that we at least have a job?
  • How would our attitude about our difficult children change if we realized that some people can’t have kids or have lost their child at an early age and were grateful that we’ve been blessed with the children we have?
  • How would our attitude about what God’s not given us change if we became grateful that he’s already given us everything we need?
  • How would our attitude about…Change?

So, if you were at New Passion this past Sunday or if you weren’t, continue the conversation and share a little of what you are grateful for:

Showing A Little Turkey Love Update

Don’t underestimate God!

On Friday I posted about how New Passion is “Showing A Little Turkey Love” this Thanksgiving in the city of Grovetown by providing complete Thanksgiving meals (Turkey & all of the fixin’s) for families who are in need during the Holidays.

Our ministry partner, United We Care, received 35 applications for assistance, so we set a goal of 15 complete meals for our church, we then raised it to 30 to challenge ourselves to embrace a faith that’s bigger than ourselves. As of Friday our brand new (little) church bought 20 complete meals, today we added 5 more!!! Our deadline to collect the money has passed, so total New Passion bought 25 complete Thanksgiving meals for 25 families in Grovetown, who otherwise would have had nothing. What if we would have settled for the 15? ๐Ÿ™‚

New Passion…you all rock and I am extremely proud of you for helping create revolutionary change in our city!

Showing A Little Turkey Love

Hey New Passion peeps…just a quick note to say that you Rock!

For those who may be wondering what ONE:27 is, especially with a Turkey head attached, I’ll explain! We call our monthly service initiatives ONE:27, from James 1:27 that says, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress…” – our heartbeat is to care for those who are in distress, regardless of what their needs are. I believe thatย  through the various gifts, talents, and resources of the church there is no issue that can go unresolved if we’ll just put Jesus’ teachings into action.

New Passion is going into our 10th week this Sunday. Our attendance has been very sporadic. We’ve had very low weeks in attendance and then better weeks in attendance. Our November initiative was to provide complete Thanksgiving meals for families who are in desperate financial need in Grovetown. I initially set a goal with some of our team to provide 15 complete turkey dinners, but then decided to shoot for a higher number, so we challenged our people to provide 30 meals. The local organization, United We Care, that we’ve partnered with only received 35 applications from families seeking assistance. As of this past Sunday, our brand new church (through the little we have in missions funds and through the gifts of our people) provided 20 of those 35 meals. Other churches in the area who have also partnered with UWC will help provide the remaining meals (I secretly was hoping we wouldn’t leave them any ๐Ÿ™‚ ). New Passion, I truly believe we are the Little Engine that Could…and I believe God is going to do some amazing things through this church.
