Actions Speak Louder

actions-speak-louderCopied from the Gospel Coalition…

“Collision Records in partnership with The Red Revolution, His Voice Global and Rapzilla is releasing the gripping single, “Actions Speak Louder,” featuring Swoope (Collision Record’s artist), LeCrae, Tedashii (Reach Record’s artists) and Jai.  The song calls people to respond to the war-torn country of South Sudan, specifically the orphaned.  Ending in 2005, the civil war, which lasted over 20 years, left about 2,000,000 dead and many children without parents.  We are calling everyone to Speak Loud on 11/16/10 for these orphans by downloading the single. 100% of the proceeds will be sent to His Voice Global to build their fourth self-sustained orphanage.  Our goal is 250,000 downloads, which would raise the funds needed for the orphanage.  With over 10,000,000 downloads a day on iTunes, 250,000 is a drop in the bucket.  Be a part of the movement, spread the word, get on iTunes 11/16/10 and let your actions speak as loud as your words.”

Check out the full song below and then go HERE to buy it and support the Orphanage, even if this isn’t your style music, it’s .99 cent for a great cause

Does Your Church Use Social Media?

Hey Church Leaders!

Does your church use social media for any reason in your church? Would you take a few minutes if you do and email my friend Ben Taylor to answer these questions for his college course he’s finishing up?

  1. Do have a social media strategy? Why or why not?
  2. How long has the Social Media strategy been in place?
  3. Define Social Media in your context?
  4. Please define your social media strategy?  (How do you use social media?)
  5. What is your goal by utilizing social media?
  6. When you think about communicating to the church/congregation/community is social media a part the strategy?
  7. Is Social Media in your context more about pushing information (marketing) or building community? Or both? Explain.
  8. What successes have your organization experienced by utilizing a social media strategy?
  9. What failures have your organization experienced by utilizing a social media strategy?
  10. How do you measure the effectiveness of your social media strategy?
  11. Are you satisfied with the results of your social media strategy? Why or why not?
  12. If you had the resources to plant a church would you choose to do in the physical or online? What is your reasoning for this choice?
  13. Do you see a social media strategy as a ministry of the church as the church? What is your rationale for this decision?

Thanks for your help!

I’m In Love With My Wife’s Best…

Flatiron.

flat-ironI’ve been growing my hair longer. It started because my wife challenged me that I couldn’t do it mixed with the motivation that I’ve always wanted to grow it out a little to see what it would look like. At times its a struggle. I’m used to short hair, so at times I get frustrated with it. A few days ago, when no one was looking I quietly turned on Nicki’s flat iron and used it for the first time…I love it! Give me a little time and I will perfect it :)

Here’s the final look I’m going for. I may never get there, but at least it’s a goal:

myfuturehairstyle

Okay. So, I may lose my man card for this one.

Join the Conversation…Your turn, what’s something you are secretly in love with, but are embarrassed to admit?

Plan B by Pete Wilson

planb-1I’ve met a lot of pastors in my life; many in person and some through the internet. I won’t go into all of the details, but I have had the privilege of meeting Pete Wilson, both through the internet and in person.  Pete is the pastor of Cross Point Church in Nashville, TN, it’s simply an amazing church made up of amazing leaders and people. It is one of those movements of God that if I were not called to pastor New Passion Church, I would probably do whatever I could to get to Nashville to mop floors at Cross Point, just to be able to be a part of what God is doing and to learn from one of the best leaders in the country. Pete and I are not really close friends or anything, but I can honestly say, I’ve met very few people like Pete, who are genuinely authentic (and not in the catch phrase kind of way) and who has a true pastor’s heart for people and is a friend to pastors and other ministry leaders. I’ve never got the impression that he has an ulterior motive and I’m a pretty good discerner of people.

I say all of that because I think you should understand what I know of the man who has written “Plan B” – which is set to release on May 4, 2010 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon for $10 HERE. I simply cannot wait to read this book. I remember hearing about the series that Pete did at Cross Point on this very title, “Plan B.”  You can hear one of the messages HERE.

You can win one of 10 pre-release copies of the book today (1/29/2010) by leaving your name and area you live in on Pete’s blog in the comments section. Check out this promo video for the book:

I believe in my heart there are so many people who desperately need to find hope in the midst of their Plan B. Maybe there’s someone in your life who’s trying to figure out why life isn’t turning out the way they thought. I’m praying this book would be a great gift for them during this season of their life. – Pete Wilson

Hero

This is video of, Jasper Sheranga (sp?), the hero who immediately reacted when a terrorist tried to blow an airplane up over U.S. soil on Christmas day as it was descending into Detroit. This is an amazing story of a real life hero. If I was ever in that situation, I’d want to be like Jasper, where I act to stop the situation and not sit paralyzed in my seat while watching myself and all others blow-up. Others who have been interviewed say that Jasper was several seats across and behind the suspect. What an amazing story!

Supermassive Bookgiveaway

stack-of-booksA Supermassive Bookgiveaway!!!

That’s what Anne Jackson, author of Mad Church Disease, is calling it on her blog.

Here’s the deal. If you tweet, blog, or facebook about the giveaway with this link (http://bit.ly/7L382T), and post a comment on her blog that you did so, you are entered to win at least 25 books. Yeah, Merry early Christmas to someone (I secretly hope its me) but the point of the contest is to spread the word (which is kind of like shooting yourself in the foot), so go tweet, blog, or facebook about the contest (remember to include the link) and then go tell her you did it, so you’ll be entered to win. The contest closes on 12/30/2009.

I shouldn’t tell you this part either, but if you do it multiple times, you’ll be entered multiple times, therefore increasing your odds of winning. So go win some books, or don’t :)

America Do Yourself A Favor: Get The KFC Grilled

kfc-grilled

According to Gallup the Average American is 17 pounds overweight.

Nicki and I saw the advertisement for the NEW KFC Grilled Chicken the other night and we both immediately and repeatedly said that we wanted to try it. Beginning the week after Thanksgiving in 2007 I have been on a journey of eating healthier and wiser, therefore I cut out a lot of fried chicken, in fact, there have been very few times we went to KFC since that week and most of the fried chicken I’ve eaten in the last year and a half has been from a Chinese restaurant when I splurged and rewarded myself. We went to a local KFC that has a buffet on a few occasions because we could get all of the vegetables we wanted, but could still control how much fried chicken we ate.  When you lose 50 pounds, its easy to learn to say ‘No!’ to a lot of things that did you harm in the past.

Nicki got a purse order today and we decided to take the children out to eat. We decided to go to KFC to try the new grilled chicken. Typically, it costs extra for grilled chicken or the healthier choices at restaurants, especially fast food restaurants, however, at KFC you can get the grilled chicken in leu of the fried chicken for the same price. Fortunately at KFC we can take the whole family (all 5 of us) and still eat affordable. We decided to go to the new KFC right down the road from our house. It was very clean and modern looking. A nice atmosphere for a fast food joint.

Here’s the bottom line…The Grilled Chicken at KFC rocks!!! It is very tasty (Great spices) and best of all its healthier than the fried. Here are a few nutrition facts (Click Here for the entire breakdown):

Original Fried Breast:…370 Cals.
Extra Crispy Breast:…..490 Cals.
Grilled Breast:…………180 Cals.

Original Fried Thigh:…..260 Cals.
Extra Crispy Thigh:…….370 Cals.
Grilled Thigh:…………..140 Cals.

America, do yourself a favor and get the KFC Grilled Chicken instead of the fried. Sure, it won’t kick all of that extra weight the average American is carrying around, but it will help you not add to it, plus it gives you an affordable alternative. Don’t believe me? Visit your local KFC on Monday, April 27th to try the new Grilled Chicken for Free!

You better hurry! It was on sale at the Evans, Georgia Wal-Mart for $1

I almost bought it for myself, but it was a Large and I don’t want to live that nightmare again!

I may regret passing it up, but hey, if one of my friends buys it, maybe I can read it…often.
