11 year old Brenden Foster is no longer with us on this earth, but his legacy will live on. He lost his battle with cancer since I posted the first story about him HERE. As you can see in this new CNN Report, Brenden inspired several groups, including some schools to get involved in helping the homeless who are less fortunate than any of us who have the capabilities of viewing this blog right now.

I wonder how many of us would lie in a hospital bed with only a few days left on this Earth and instead of thinking about the sad state we were in, would spend our time thinking of others and how we could help them? I can’t help but to be inspired by Brenden. I can’t help but to ask myself, “What’s my excuse for sitting still?” I can’t help but to ask, “What’s your excuse for sitting still?Shane preached this morning about “The Kingdom” and his main point was, The Gospel is lived out with your hands and feet, not your body in a seat.

If you live in the CSRA, especially if you attend The Church @ Greenbrier, you can join us at The Augusta Rescue Mission, this Thursday (yes that is Thanksgiving) to serve the poor and homeless a Thanksgiving meal. It starts at 9 a.m. and most people are working until 2 p.m., but you are free to leave earlier if you need to. Join the Conversation, What can you do to make Brenden’s dying wish come true?

Walk On – ESPN Video

This is an inspirational story about DJ Gregory, who had a dream to walk every hole of every golf tournament; you’ve got to watch this!!! It’s about 12 minutes long, but well worth your time.

Kevin Carroll’s formula to be successful in achieving your dreams is as follows:

Dedication
Responsibility
Education
Attitude
Motivated

The Power of One – ESPN Video

You’ve got to watch the entire show about this young man, Adam Bender, who was born with cancer and had to have one of his legs amputated. This boy has one of the biggest hearts I have ever witnessed to overcome an obstacle that could have kept him from living life to its fullest. This is a true testament that you can do anything you put your mind, your heart, and your strength to. Between THIS story about Brandon Marshall and his huge heart to help people in need while he himself is confined to a hospital bed waiting to die and Adam Bender, I feel about an inch tall, but I can see a bright future for this generation. They definitely put a lot of the adults I know to shame, and that’s sad! What I see in these boys is pure Passion and passion can move mountains!

Chasing Daylight Ch. 1 Thoughts (Part 1)

Photobucket

I started Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus last night. I’ve made a commitment to take notes and highlight stuff that sticks out to me, and by blogging those thoughts it kind of forces me to keep up with the book. I tend to jump from book to book.

I don’t know what good stuff lies ahead in chapter 1, so we’ll see if there is a part 2 (check back!)…

  • Chapter 1 so far deals with choices and what we do with the moments that we are given.
  • There are things that must be done today, things that you and you alone were created to accomplish. Some of us are wasting our time burning daylight when what we need to be doing is seizing the power of every moment.
[This is how I feel in my current ministry/career “moment”]
  • Somehow we all know that to play it safe is to lose the game. By definition an adventure is “an undertaking or enterprise of a hazardous nature.” In other words, it comes at great risk and at significant cost!
  • Moments are as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sands in the sea, and any of them could prove to be your most significant divine moments. Within those moments, a handful will become the defining moments in your life. However mundane a moment may appear, the miraculous may wait to be unwrapped within it.
  • When you seize divine moments, you instigate an atomic reaction. You become a human catalyst a divine impact. The result can be earthshaking! [Oh, how I want to be a human catalyst…a divine impact!] Continue reading “Chasing Daylight Ch. 1 Thoughts (Part 1)”

My Opinion: Philip Rivers is a Jerk!

philiprivers
UPDATE: I wrote this back in 2008 before I knew how much of a cry baby Jay Cutler was too, but I still think Philip Rivers is a jerk.
It is my official opinion that Philip Rivers is a jerk. I remember the statements he made a couple of years ago demanding to trade him if San Diego did not trade Drew Brees, I saw firsthand his actions and attitude towards Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos in week 16, which looked like it was taking place on the playground with a bunch of 7th graders , and this week in the playoffs against the Colts, instead of acting like the winner his team was, he once again acted and looked like a 7th grader by causing problems with the Indianapolis Colts fans. Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of the players on the Chargers, especially L.T., but Philip Rivers has shown the he is a true blue, childish Jerk! If Philip Rivers had accomplished more in his career than he has, he may have the right to exude more confidence and demand trades as he did with Drew Brees, but his numbers are no where near what Drew’s have been, especially last year. I wonder where Philip Rivers would have the Chargers without Ladainian Tomlinson? Probably under .500.
