Drummer Needed in Augusta Georgia Area

New Passion Church is looking for a skilled drummer for our band. The weekly commitment consists of a Tuesday evening practice and a Sunday performance which includes set-up before service, a live instrumental intro, a 5 song set-list, and breakdown after service (New Passion is a portable church that meets at Patriot’s Park in Grovetown, Georgia). Throughout the year there will be other opportunities for the band to play in other community events through New Passion and with other organizations.

Here are a couple of samples of our band, the video quality is not great. We also occasionally perform a cover song if the song applies to our sermon series:

Helping Haiti (UPDATED)

As I was driving into the office this morning, I turned on Bill Bennett’s morning show (Morning in America) to try and get an idea about what was taking place in Haiti, either through his program or through the news. As many of you have already heard, Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 magnitude Earthquake, which is being described as a ‘total disaster‘ where hospitals and other buildings have completely collapsed and the death toll is expected to be high. If you are looking to donate towards relief efforts in Haiti, Bill recommended the Organization “Food for the Poor” – This organization is already doing a lot to help the people of Haiti, they’ve currently got missionaries in the area and they have an office and feeding center in the region as well. My new blog friend Brad Ruggles had this post and this post on his blog for the past couple of days. The conversations have been great, a little rough at times, but honest and interesting to say the least.

“Hi, My Name is Nick and I Am A…

…Control Freak!”

It really sounds bad, but its true. I would much rather put God on a leash and be in full control of everything, rather than to be submissive to him and wait on his timing, to play by his rules, and to follow his path. Unfortunately, I have seen enough and I have learned enough in my ancient 27 years of living to know that I am out of luck, because God is in control and no matter how much I would rather him be on a leash, he will never assume that position. However, my knowledge of this does not make it easier for me, sure I have gotten better at giving up control, but I still struggle with it.

I believe God is huge on Integrity (John 1:45-48). I have been given an opportunity to speak at my church on July 6th. Now you may be reading this and think, “What’s the big deal? I speak at my church all the time!” Well, it is a big deal. I was a part of the teaching team at my former church and have been at my current church as a volunteer leader for less than two years, so #1 They don’t lay hands on any man suddenly (which is cool by me) and #2 Its been about two years since I did a message in “BIG” church, I speak with teens all the time. But, for two years God has put a passion in my heart for a particular subject a main theme for Christians and the church…its nothing new, but its what the Lord’s given to me, so in a way it is new. It focuses on the total abandonment of the people who say they are followers of the Christ. So, as I have been struggling to put all of the pieces to this message together, God has been building the message out of me. I have been living it for the past couple of weeks, and I just realized what was going on, and in the meantime learning that I have a serious problem if I am going to live out this message that is on my heart!

So there it is. Seriously ashamed. I am a control freak and it must stop! My wife would probably have a heart attack just for me admitting it. I never let her drive the family around with me in the car. I’ve always seen my dad drive and I always thought it was the gentlemen thing to do. I’ve let my wife drive me when I was very sick, but it was at those times that I could care less if I was in control. Nicki drives our boys (and Hailey) everywhere, so why is it any different when I am in the car? Because I must control. Though it is a small start, tonight when we go get dinner, I am having Nicki drive us everywhere! And when it comes to spiritual things, I realize I must give up my selfish ambitions, my understanding, my timing, and my plans to live totally abandoned to Jesus.

Image Matters

My Grandma always told me that if I wanted a job, I better wear a suit to the interview, or at least a shirt and tie. Why? Because image is important. That is why 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 is one of my favorite verses. We are encouraged to become all things to all people…now my story:

I eat lunch at Panera Bread approximately 3-4 days a week, sometimes more. They have the best soup in town and that is all I eat for lunch. Yesterday, as I was waiting for my name to be called to pick up my lunch at the pick-up counter I was setting my laptop up, when I was approached by a guy I didn’t know. He was a big guy, with those big ear rings that stretch your ears and make big holes. He was wearing a black t-shirt, and jean shorts. He looked like the kind of guy that would be interested in heavy metal rock music or something. He was friendly and said, “I know you don’t know me at all and this may be weird, but do you use the internet in here a lot?” I told him that I did, so he proceeded to ask me if I would go help his friend access the internet. He was concerned that my food would get cold, so he told me to bring it to their table with me, but I told him it would be ok.

I did the best that I could to get this guy’s friend’s computer to connect to the internet. His friend was a smaller version of the big guy, except he had longer hair in a ponytail with a hat on. He had camouflage shorts on with a black t-shirt. As I attempted to work on the computer, both guys were very friendly, talkative, and they shared how they were in town for some reason, but they were originally from York, Pennsylvania. I don’t remember too much of what was said as I was focusing on helping them out with their computer issue. I thought I had fixed it, and as the browser was taking them to Panera’s log-in screen, a parental control screen came up requesting a password. The guy who owned the computer was straight up with me and said that his wife has most of the internet blocked because he struggles with things on there, most guys would not admit that. I told him there was probably nothing I could do to help him log on to the internet because of the parental lock, so I told them good luck and went to eat my lunch, but I couldn’t help myself, knowing that these guys needed the internet for something important for their trip, so I went and offered for the guy to use my computer, he did, and both guys were overjoyed that I was willing to help them. These guys were super nice people.
