Are You Listening?

I just finished reading this article by Doug Fields on Simply Youth Ministry’s Articles page. It was so good I wanted to share. Take a minute and read the excerpt and head on over to check out the whole article! It doesn’t matter who you deal with in Life, children, adults, or teens, this article is transferable…

Are You Listening
By Doug Fields

I was recently at Weinersnitzel eating one of America’s finest meals-the tube steak kabob…affectionately known by connoisseurs as a Corn Dog. As I was moving to my seat, I see a high school student reading the Di Vinci Code. I asked him, “How do you like that book?” Honestly, I thought that it was a very easy question and I would get a very quick response! That’s not what happened! Continue Reading

Random Thoughts

  • I really like playing basketball at the Rec. Dept. There is no racism, age doesn’t matter. Its just a bunch of guys playing ball (tonight I saw a couple of girls getting ready to take on some big guys too). I don’t know these guys, but they have welcomed me as one of their own. Its really cool. I have noticed 2 things that make a huge impact: #1 Remembering guys names, seriously, their jaws just drop when you see them on a different day and you call them by name and remember who they are, I think it makes them feel important. #2 Encouragement. The guys that know each other will fight over the smallest of calls, but I will always side with the opposing team if it is close. I’ll let them have the ball and I won’t argue a call if they say I touched the ball last before it went out of bounds or something like that. If a guy on the opposite team makes a good shot or a makes a good play, I compliment them, or if it was a horrible play, I find something positive to encourage them with. The results? Guy’s will find me before I leave asking when I will be back…relationships are being made!
  • I finally finished “Blue Like Jazz.” I am a slow reader at times.
  • Nicki is not a Twitter Fan. I am new to it and have picked it up quickly. I have realized I am following some very important people, for which I am not one of.
  • I am typing this in bed, almost too sore to type, seriously!!! Its from 3 hours of Basketball versus some bigger guys. I need the exercise and it only helps me to play bigger guys to get better, but I am feeling the combined results of softball practice on Monday and Basketball 2 days in a row…I may rest tomorrow from the gym.
  • I am almost finished with Jeremiah. Whew! A very long book, that honestly was very intriguing at first, but now has gotten long and is repetitive in the sense that its all about who God is going to destroy. I’ve only got 2 more chapters and then I am moving back to the New Testament for a while!

Weekend Flashback

Here’s My Weekend Flashback…
  • Friday night Nicki and I ate dinner at Sconyers BBQ…for the 2nd week in a row! This week I got something different to mix it up.
  • Last week, the transmission in My Ford Explorer slipped bad twice as I was getting on the interstate, so Nicki and I decided it was time to let it go (It was a good vehicle over the past 4 years) I bought it 4 years ago and it did not give me any major issues other than the transmission every once in a while until lately. If the transmission went out we would have lost the trade value so we parted with it.
  • We got a 2005 Nissan Altima S. We test drove one back in 05 before we got Nicki’s X-Terra and loved it, so that was the first thing we got…we cannot really afford another payment, but I guess I will be finding a second job after the windows are finished at the mall. The car is pictured below:

  • I got to go to the YS Conference in Atlanta Saturday night and all day Sunday. Doug Fields was in town speaking and doing a couple of seminars, so I went up to help serve as a consultant for Georgia area youth pastors and workers. A bonus was seeing Louie Giglio speak, seeing Family Force Five in concert for the first time, and seeing Chris Tomlin and David Crowder.
