Parenting 201 from Nick Carnes

Passing on Family Values: I try to teach my children something new every time Nicki leaves us alone. Father/Son time.

Yesterday, while Nicki was at the doctor I taught Tristan how to be Rambo and how to shoot a Machine Gun:

Aim at your Target
Show No Fear!

Shoot your enemy with a smile on your face…muscles flexing!
Yelling Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!

Celebrate the victory by shooting your gun in the air wildly. Yelling Aaaaaaahhhhh!
Tristan is a natural Rambo…he passes with an A+

Maryland Trip

I just got home last night from a short, yet long, trip to Maryland to visit Nicki’s dad. The trip was fun, but when you take a 5 year old and an 18 month old on that long of a trip, it wears you out…and drives you crazy! To make matters worst, the kids get up earlier than God, and since my father-in-laws house only has two bedrooms, that meant we had to get up earlier than God as well! We did not get much sleep, and I don’t think I will ever take an 18 month old in the car for that long of a trip again either, Gavin was fine with his portable DVD player, but we only have one and it is on his seat, so Tristan got bored.

I also had the opportunity to visit my friend Mike Kemper. We visited his church (Charm City Churchy) in the city of Baltimore. West Baltimore to be exact, and when you think about “Downtown” I guarantee you he is no where near the downtown you see in your city. (Here is a slide show from a random website, the pictures show a glimpse of the area, but they do not do it justice. I didn’t see any trash on the streets in these pictures, and no people…the trash along the curb would have come up to about my ankle). Mike’s church does not have all of the flash and bang that a lot of churches have, but I guarantee you he would put a lot of American churches to shame…for that matter…a lot of churches period! He is truly reaching the addicts, the prostitutes, the poor…those who are totally disconnected from God. His vision to reach the city of Baltimore is awesome, and God is sending him people from everywhere. I will be blogging about his church more in a later post, but I know God is going to use Mike Kemper in an awesome way!

Reagan Theodore Benson Carnes Arrived!

Sunday afternoon, my brother Ben and his wife Ashley, had their first baby (brace yourself for the name) Reagan Theodore Benson Carnes, he is going to have a tough time spelling all of that when he gets older, but I am sure he will manage! Ben is huge into politics, and thus he chose republican names for the little rug rat, however I have chosen my own nickname for the little one, Clinton Obama Edwards Carnes, not because I Support them, but because I have to be the pesky older brother!

Anyway, this was an awesome outfit to take the new one home in! Congrats Ben and Ashley!!! And welcome Reagan!

Baby Carnes #3

Nicki is pregnant with our #3 child. I have been wanting to tell people for 2 weeks now, but Nicki insisted that I did not, I guess it was funner to keep it a secret? Hmmmm….anyway, I delighted that the secret would finally come out when Nicki went back into the hospital for the last 6 days, and it did. Our parents were the only ones that knew for a long time, and it was really tough for my mom to keep it under wraps, but she did it.

Anyway, of course Nicki wants a girl, I could care less…I am more interested in a healthy baby. One more boy gets me closer to developing my very own sports team, but then again if its a girl she is more than able to play for the team as well.
